Roan Hudson "R.H." Cowart, Sr.
August 18, 1935 - August 14, 2012
Roan Hudson "R.H." Cowart, Sr., 76, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at his home in Savannah, GA under the care of Odyssey Hospice.
Mr. Cowart was born in Emanuel County, GA on August 18, 1935, the son of the late Inman Turner Cowart and Ila Hendrix Boyles. He was a graduate of Commercial High School. Following graduation he began working at Union Camp where he retired as a Maintenance Control Supervisor after nearly 40 years of service. He was a longtime member of Bull Street Baptist Church. Outside of work, R.H. was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cowart was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Joan Leslie Cowart; step-father, Thomas Boyles and sisters, Jo Frances Strickland and Joyce Lightfoot Snyder. He is survived by his children, Deborah Tomazin and husband Roy of Register, Roan H. Cowart, Jr. and wife Mary of Guyton, Daniel D. Cowart of Rincon, James Cowart and wife Joanna of Metter, Joanna Greenway and husband Frank of Rincon and Vicky Turner of Savannah; sister, Emily Jones and husband Leon of Claxton and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with burial following at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Bull Street Baptist Church, Beyond Measure Fund, 17 East Anderson Street, Savannah, GA 31401.
